Ocmulgee National Monument is made up of two units separated by two miles of riverine wetlands along the Ocmulgee River. The well kept main unit of the park neighbors the city of Macon, Georgia, an urban area with a population of 118,000. and the visitor center provides helpful information and a film about the site. Unit is an important prehistoric town site located in the river floodplain
about 2-1/2 miles South of the Monument's main unit. Although not
recommended, this section can be visited only by getting a special permit at
the main unit headquarters. |
